Spring Showcase

Up Next!

JUNE 1, 2024
at the beautiful
Smothers Theatre on the campus of Pepperdine University

Our Annual Spring Showcase is the culmination of a year’s worth of study.

All CDA students are strongly encouraged to participate –

after all, dance is a performing art!

As a performing art, every dance class is taught with the intention of the stage.

Working on a concert piece, then performing that live in front of an audience, teaches our students many valuable life lessons – discipline, commitment, the power of good preparation, how to work with others, overcoming nerves, and how, quite literally, to think “on your feet” to move past inevitable mistakes and unforeseen challenges.

Rehearsals & Preparation

  • Lower Division classes

rehearse pieces within their class times to perform onstage at the Showcase.

  • Upper Division Ballet classes

rehearse on Saturday afternoons so that the regular weekly class times are still focused solely on technique.

  • Upper Division Alternate Style classes

(Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop, etc.) rehearse pieces within their class times.

Additional Opportunities

Excerpts of Classical Ballets

Intermediate & Advanced Ballet students are also invited to perform in the Défilé, a large multi-level piece choreographed each year by Director Robbin Shahani, and selected excerpts of classical ballets. Past repertoire has included Coppélia, Don Quixote, La Bayadère, Paquita, Sleeping Beauty, and Swan Lake.

This unique opportunity to learn selections from a classic ballet each year gives students the experience of dancing in the “corps de ballet,” which can be one of the most difficult, as well as beautiful, things in ballet.

Fees & Requirements

The cost to participate in the Spring Showcase depends on the number of dances in which a child participates. Fees start at $170, depending on the number of pieces and costumes needed.

In order to participate in our Intermediate & Advanced Classical Excerpts and Defilé, dancers will need to be attending the minimum number of ballet classes for their assigned level each week (typically 2–4). They will also need to be available to attend rehearsals on Saturdays.

This year’s Spring Showcase will be June 10, 2024

Tickets will be on sale to the general public soon, thank you.
